In Malta there are lots of buses, ecabs, taxis or ferries, however, not all of them are on time, because they usually get stuck in the traffic jams.

As you already know, Malta is a small island which is infamous for its terrible public transport. The buses never follow their timetable which you can find at the bus station. Furthermore, you can download an app, called Tallinja, but it doesn’t work well either. When you want to know when the bus is coming, arrival time suddenly disappears and the bus never shows up.

Public Transport

For those who want to get to their favourite destination easily, there are many possibilities like:  Buses, Ecabs, Taxis, Ferries.

Tallinja is an app for Android and iPhones which is not too complicated to use if someone helps you.

As you can see in this photo there are many sections:

  • Journey Planner is used for look a short route from one place to another.

  • My Next Bus allow you to see when the bus is coming in your bus station . Also it has your current position and it shows you where the buses stations are nearby.

  • When you have a specific bus station, you can put in favourites and it easier to find it.

  • The last important thing in the app is that you can auto Top-up your bus card, it easy and fast to recharge your card.

In Malta, there is a company called Ecabs. They work like normal taxis but cheaper. The service is really professional; however, at night, when you want to go out you spend a long time by waiting for your cab. Furthermore, sometimes you have to share the cab with someone else.

Ferries are used for transport to islands such as Comino or Gozo, which are the most favourite destinations for tourists. When you go from Malta to Comino or Gozo, the trip is free, but when you come back to Malta, you must pay 5,50 euros.

In conclusion, even if you know that in Malta, people drive on the left side,  we would like to add that it’s really important to be careful on the street. There are lots of cars , narrow streets and you might get injured very easily.  We hope our advices will help you and you can enjoy your trip without any complications.
